Weezer- "Raditude" Review

Alright, its Dave here from TheClassicCriminal. Today's review is on Weezer's newest album "Raditude".

Weezer was formed in 1992 and has gone through numerous line-up changes. Currently the band consists of Rivers Cuomo, Brian Bell, Scott Shriner, and Patrick Wilson. The band has a rock sound with an occasional differ to electric sound and acoustic.

(If You're Wondering if I want you to) I want you to- A great way to start of the record, one of my favorite songs on the album. It begins with a catchy acoustic guitar line and good lyrics. Note that Weezer's lyrics are always rather interesting and sometimes seem rather weird. I love that they do it that way, but if you aren't into that then you might not like this band. 10/10

I'm Your Daddy- Good song, catchy, but as I said, some weird lyrics. The guitars are great and the overall feel is good. 8/10

The Girl Got Hot- This is one of those songs that is random to say the least but it is quite catchy. The idea is about someone who wasn't much to look at in school years, but grows up to being "hot". Not bad, not great. 7/10

Can't Stop Partying- This is where the sound starts getting mixed around. The song has a rap feel and a little bit electric in it. I'm not a big fan of rap, but they seem to pull it off pretty well. Also, Lil' Wayne sings towards the end of the song. Not my favorite, but good. 8/10

Put Me Back Together- A softer song, but very catchy. The lyrics fit together well and the music is fantastic. 9/10

Trippin' Down the Freeway- This song is about a struggling couple who fights to stay together as they are "Trippin' Down the Freeway". The intro and verses have a weird beat and weird sound lyrically but it sounds great nonetheless. This is by far one of my favorite songs on the record. 10/10

Love Is the Answer- This is a very expirimental song. It has a sound, a sound that is hard to explain. It sounds like something you would hear in a Hindu temple. To go along with that, a portion of the song is sung by a woman in Hindi. This is very interesting, but it is sort of catchy and its growing on me. 8/10

Let It All Hang Out- One of the best songs on the record. This is talking about how at the end of the week its nice to just hang loose and chill with friends. The song is catchy and great lyrically and musically. 10/10

In the Mall- Haha. Haha. Haha. This is one of the funniest songs on the record, not because it has funny lyrics specifically, but because the music gives it this hard core serious sound to it. Not the best song but a fun one indeed. 8/10

I Don't Want to Let You Go- A good way to end the record. The music is rather predictable, but it is decent. The lyrics are great. And the ending coming in a little stronger than the earlier choruses, is a great outro to the album. 9/10

Well, for some of you, you might get the CD with the bonus tracks CD. It consists of 4 extra songs, which add some length to the album. These are not needed, but they are nice to have, and any Weezer enthusiest will want them. I think these songs were left out of the full cut because they weren't as catchy as the others. But I think these are second in line to them, so I am happy with purchasing them.

Get Me Some- This song starts out with "Right now, everything sucks...". What a GREAT way to start off a song! Haha, but still this song isn't the catchiest but it is different. It has a heavy metal type sound to it. And Rivers's screaming towards the end just makes it all the more strange. But this song does have some thought put into the lyrics. 7/10

Run Over By a Truck- This has probably the cheesiest lyrics andthe cheesiest rhymes of the record, yet I'm hooked on this song. It is catchy, and the music is well put together. I like it, I don't know about you, but it's decent. 8/10

The Prettiest Girl In the Whole Wide World- I am in love with this song. It is a love song, but a good one. It would seem like a mooshy gooshy song, but it is actually pretty good. Fantastic lyrics and catchy music. 9/10

The Underdogs- This song relates most with "Can't Stop Partying" with its rap style sound. This is probably my least favorite song on the entire package, but I like most of them so that isn't saying much. It has somewhat of a catchy hook, but not too great. 6.5/10

Overall I give this album a 7 out of 10.

Angels and Airwaves- LOVE Review

Hey guys its Dave here from TheClassicCriminal. Today's review is of the brand new album from Angels and Airwaves entitled "LOVE". You can get the entire album for free at their website:
http://modlife.com/angelsandairwaves

Oh and its LEGAL haha.

Alright well, lets start. This album I think is their greatest work so far. The album has great sounds because they finally struck the balance between sound effects and traditional instruments. Also, please note that at the end of many songs there are a minute or two of added instrumentals. Delonge has noted these are to help in the soundtrack of their movie also entitled "LOVE" which was due out on Valentines Day as well, but has been postponed to April.

Before I get into the tracks, let me say that there is not one song I have a disliking for.

Et Ducit Mundum Per Luce- GREAT way to start off the album. It is completely instrumental but it has a ring to it. 9/10

The Flight of Apollo- The first "real" track. One of the best on the album. Has a great ring and good lyrics. The chorus is very catchy even though it is the same line again and again. One of my favorites from their entire career. 10/10

Young London- Starts off with a transition from "The Flight of Apollo" with heavy guitar chords. A fantastic guitar line comes into play, very solo-like and very fast. The lyrics are some of the most interesting on the record. The chorus is catchy and the music is overall great. This is also the first song with the extra instrumental at the end. Another 10/10.

Shove- This song starts with the sound effects ending of the transition of "Young London" It later turns into an 80's sounding guitar line. The lyrics are decent, not bad at all but also not the greatest, but the song is very catchy. 8/10

Epic Holiday- One of my personal favorites on the record. The chorus is catchy and meaningful. The guitar lines are great. The verses have a great bass line as well. 10/10

Hallucinations- This song was released on New Years Eve to get people hyped for the new record. It is catchy, but one of my least favorites on the record just because I've listened to it so much. The guitar line is catchy and the lyrics are good though. 8/10

The Moon Atomic (...Fragments and Fictions)- One of the most clever songs, lyrically and musically, on the record. It reminds me a lot of "Start the Machine" From We Don't Need to Whisper. Good Sounding. 9/10

Clever Love- This song begins with the outro of "The Moon Atomic". This song is more expirimental sounding. It reminds me a lot of "Breath" from I-Empire. I mean A LOT. But the lyrics are good and catchy. It is built on walls of sound effects. Good song, not the best, but still good. 8/10

Soul Survivor (...2012)- This one reminds me a lot of "Lifeline" from I-Empire. The verses are strange sounding. But there are a lot of good guitar riffs. The chorus seems a little cheesey, but not too bad. 8/10

Letters to God, Part II- I know what you guys are thinking. "Part II?? What was part I?" Well, the original "Letters to God" was done by Delonge's other band, (which also included Kennedy on tour) BoxcarRacer. The original was a lot different and was more of a plea lyrically. It was acoustic. I will probably be doing a BoxcarRacer album review at some point. But this one is of course spacey. The lyrics are great and the chorus is catchy. 10/10

Some Origins of Fire- The title has almost nothing to do with the song. This song is very interesting. It is mellower than some other songs on the record, but not in a bad way. It is very sound effects heavy. The lyrics are good, stating "We all want love, but love is hard, we are hard to love". Great song. 10/10

Overall I give this album a 10/10

Angels and Airwaves- I Empire Review

Hey guys, its Dave here from The Classic Criminal. Todays review is of the second Angels and Airwaves album "I-Empire".

The album consists of 10 realy tracks and two instrumental tracks. The sound house a somewhat large difference from their first album "We Don't Need to Whisper". There are still the sound effects but there is more of the actual instruments this time around. Ryan Sinn, the former bassist on "We Don't Need to Whisper", was replaced with Matt Watcher, formerly of 30 Seconds to Mars.

Call to Arms- One of my favorite songs of the record. It is very catchy and builds off of guitar. The chorus is very catchy and constantly is in my head. It is fast, ryhthmitic, and just overall an excellent song. 10/10

Everything's Magic- Another very catchy song. It was the first single released for the record. It has very nice lyrics and a great chorus. It plays around a very good guitar line, similar to that of "Anthem Part II" by Blink-182, Delonge's former band. Overall one of the best song on the record. 9/10

Breathe- One of my least favorite on the album. I like the lyrics to the chorus, but it is just a little slow for my taste. It reminds me of the "Whisper" album due to the heavy amounts of sound effects. 7/10

Love Like Rockets- Probable my second favorite songs on the album. It opens with about 75 seconds of instrumental sounds and what sounds like a radio transmission. The first half of the intro is mostly clapping and sound effects while the second half has a pretty good tremolo style guitar line. The lyrics are amazing. Very catchy. 10/10

Sirens- Another great song. It opens and consistently stays with a very good bass riff. The guitars add to it to make it even better. This song is gone with most sound effects, although some are still in, to make it sound better than it would have otherwise. 9.5/10

Secret Crowds- Fantastic. Catchy. The lyrics are well thought out. There are a lot of sound effects in the intro but it switches to traditional guitars and drums and bass. The vocals are outstanding. I love this song. 9/10

Star of Bethlehem- Instrumental

True Love- Spawns out of "Star of Bethlehem. Its intro is made up of sound effects mainly. The lyrics are okay and the vocals are good. 8/10

Lifeline- My least favorite. Not catchy at all and just blah. Its comprised mostly of sound effects. 6/10

Jumping Rooftops- Instrumental

Rite of Spring- Probably my favorite on the album. The lyrics tell Tom's life story. It talks about how he goes through all of lifes trials and that if he could change his life, he wouldn't because he wouldn't be who he is now.

Heaven- I don't know what I think of this song. I don't really like it, but I'm not sure. It starts off with about 1 minute and 48 seconds of just instrumental sounds. The verses are normal instruments but the chorus is heavy sound effects paired with guitar riffs. I don't love it. I don't hate it. The only inbetween one of the album. 7/10

I give this album an overall 9 out of 10.

Angels and Airwaves- We Don't Need to Whisper Review

Hi guys, its Dave here with the review for Angels and Airwaves's first album "I-Empire"

Alright well, a little background on Angels and Airwaves here.
Angels and Airwaves was "official" in 2005/2006. It was comprised then of Tom Delonge of Blink-182, David Kennedy, Ryan Sinn (who was later replaced with Matt Watcher, and Atom Willard. Tom formed the band after the breaking up of his previous band Blink-182. Blink-182 did recently reform however.

Angels and Airwaves is a very spacey sounding band. On this album there is a lot of sound effects along with some traditional instruments. This provides a very interesting sound, sometimes in a good way, but other times in a very bad way.

Valkyrie Missile- This is the opening track of the record. It begins with radio transmissions of what sounds to be a faux space mission. The song has nearly 3 minutes of just instrumental sound effects. After that it blasts right into the verse. The verses are actually very clever lyrically and the chorus is actually somewhat catchy. I give it a 9 out of 10

Distraction- I find this song the most catchy song on the record. I hum it and sing it for hours straight and it will be stuck in my head for a long time. It has a very cool sounding bass line in the verse, even though it is very simple. I give this song a 9.5 out of 10

Do It for Me Now- One of my least favorite songs of the record. It is very much sound effects and not much more besides the intro having a small guitar riff. The lyrics are rather corny but there is a little bit of a ring to it. I give it a 6 out of 10.

The Adventure- Great song musically, it has walls of guitar and interesting sound effects at the same time. Very catchy. It has a very good balance of effects vs. instruments. 9 out of 10.

A Little's Enough- Another one of my least favorite songs on the album. The verses are not very catchy and the chorus is not that great either. It does end up later with a catchy ending. 7 out of 10.

The War- One of the best songs on the album. It features more guitar and drums than sound effects. The chorus is one of the most catchy of the record. The guitars are heavy and the drum line is intricate and rhythmitic. 9.5 out of 10.

The Gift- This is one of the most sound effect heavy songs. It is hard to describe because it is half good half not. The chorus is pretty good. The lyrics of the song I find to be a little cheesey. Other than that its a pretty good song. 8 out of 10.

It Hurts- This song begins with about 45 seconds of a repeated guitar line, which is actually pretty good. Its intro is repeated throughout the song "It hurts. it hurts, it hurts..." some may find it annoying, but they seem to pull it off well. The song is actually pull it off well. 8.5/10

Good Day- One of my least favorite songs. The lyrics are underwhelming and it is very much comprised of sound effects. 4 out of 10.

Start the Machine- This song is hard to describe. It begins with a toy piano type sound version of the chorus. It sounds almost like a horror movie sound. I like the song a lot though. It has some interesting lyrics and the outro to the song and to the record is very great. 8 out of 10.

Overall I give this album an 8 out of 10.
