Angels and Airwaves- We Don't Need to Whisper Review

Hi guys, its Dave here with the review for Angels and Airwaves's first album "I-Empire"

Alright well, a little background on Angels and Airwaves here.
Angels and Airwaves was "official" in 2005/2006. It was comprised then of Tom Delonge of Blink-182, David Kennedy, Ryan Sinn (who was later replaced with Matt Watcher, and Atom Willard. Tom formed the band after the breaking up of his previous band Blink-182. Blink-182 did recently reform however.

Angels and Airwaves is a very spacey sounding band. On this album there is a lot of sound effects along with some traditional instruments. This provides a very interesting sound, sometimes in a good way, but other times in a very bad way.

Valkyrie Missile- This is the opening track of the record. It begins with radio transmissions of what sounds to be a faux space mission. The song has nearly 3 minutes of just instrumental sound effects. After that it blasts right into the verse. The verses are actually very clever lyrically and the chorus is actually somewhat catchy. I give it a 9 out of 10

Distraction- I find this song the most catchy song on the record. I hum it and sing it for hours straight and it will be stuck in my head for a long time. It has a very cool sounding bass line in the verse, even though it is very simple. I give this song a 9.5 out of 10

Do It for Me Now- One of my least favorite songs of the record. It is very much sound effects and not much more besides the intro having a small guitar riff. The lyrics are rather corny but there is a little bit of a ring to it. I give it a 6 out of 10.

The Adventure- Great song musically, it has walls of guitar and interesting sound effects at the same time. Very catchy. It has a very good balance of effects vs. instruments. 9 out of 10.

A Little's Enough- Another one of my least favorite songs on the album. The verses are not very catchy and the chorus is not that great either. It does end up later with a catchy ending. 7 out of 10.

The War- One of the best songs on the album. It features more guitar and drums than sound effects. The chorus is one of the most catchy of the record. The guitars are heavy and the drum line is intricate and rhythmitic. 9.5 out of 10.

The Gift- This is one of the most sound effect heavy songs. It is hard to describe because it is half good half not. The chorus is pretty good. The lyrics of the song I find to be a little cheesey. Other than that its a pretty good song. 8 out of 10.

It Hurts- This song begins with about 45 seconds of a repeated guitar line, which is actually pretty good. Its intro is repeated throughout the song "It hurts. it hurts, it hurts..." some may find it annoying, but they seem to pull it off well. The song is actually pull it off well. 8.5/10

Good Day- One of my least favorite songs. The lyrics are underwhelming and it is very much comprised of sound effects. 4 out of 10.

Start the Machine- This song is hard to describe. It begins with a toy piano type sound version of the chorus. It sounds almost like a horror movie sound. I like the song a lot though. It has some interesting lyrics and the outro to the song and to the record is very great. 8 out of 10.

Overall I give this album an 8 out of 10.
